Sarah is a mixed media artist from South Bend, IN. Growing up there was a heavy influence of medicine, science, math, language, and encouragement to ask questions and explore possible answers. Both of her parents were adept at learning and knowledge so games were made of fact finding and trivia. Questions were adventures to undertake and knowing the truth about something made vivid fiction all the more tangible. The fun was never really in the knowing, it was in the finding out.
Sarah's curiosity combined with the interest in seeing how things work, and imagining the minds that made it, drive her to take things apart. Her Anxiety, the need to keep her hands busy, and the fear of seeing anything with life still in it be forgotten, compels her to put things together again. Bringing the inside to the outside showcases the marvels of what makes these things work. She feels that the efforts put into the engineering of old machines, clocks, and craftsmanship should not be ignored once the machine stops working.
Sarah also works with bones. Often her pieces are a combination of anatomy and philosophy. The bones she works with are from animals who died previous to her coming in contact with them. Nothing was killed specifically for her to use in her work. She sees these parts as the mechanics of a once living being. Curiosities about anatomy are crucial to keeping people healthy, and artists have famously led the charge of exploring bodies. As with machines, Sarah looks at the different systems inside of life as something to explore and celebrate. She feels that understanding the draw to the parts she works with adds to the appreciation of her work so it automatically takes on a much richer flavor.
She is self taught and showing her work since 2013, mainly in South Bend, IN. She's participated in:

She plans on continuing her work focusing more on gallery events more than outdoor events due, mostly, to how fragile some of her pieces can be.
